Dear Fellow Lions,

It has been a hectic and yet a very good week. Since the announcement of the formation of the
Lions Education Foundation (LEF) in Kuala Krai on 6th August, 2010  we received pledges
and contributions to the tune of RM 120,000.00! Thank you very much to all of you and also to
the friends of Lions, for your generosity. When we received RM 10,000.00 from LionsClub of
Kota Budaya at their installation on 7th August, 2010 I left for Regions 8 and 9 for their Joint
Installation. In my speech I spoke about the need of having a
LEF of our own and have received
encouraging words from the Lions in Johor. In fact one Lion, President Kiew of Lions Club of
Kulai, has personally told me that his club would support this good cause and soon will organise
a fund raising for this purpose. Thank you for your kind gesture and show of support. The
LEF
received another booster when Lion Indran, the President of Lions Club of Kota Bharu, before I
left for KL on 14th August, 2010 announced that another RM 5,000.00 on top of the pledge of
RM 20,000.00 made earlier making a total contribution of RM 25,000.00 (including RM 3,000.00
from Region Chairperson Sunny Tan) from that club alone. By far this is the highest from a single
club.  I am totally impressed by your determination to see that
LEF becomes a reality. On the same night, at Lions Club of KL
East's  Anniversary, the club has pledged RM 10,000.00 towards
LEF.  This is only made possible with the support of Lion Lim
Chun Nge and Lion Soon Teck Thong and their other members. On my way out, Lion President Soh of Gemas Bahru gave a
BIG PRESENT i.e.  their club has pledged at least RM 20,000.00 towards the
LEF. Thanks so much for your support and
foresight. The next day on the 15th of August, while on my club visit to Lions Club of Seremban Central in the morning, I was
totally taken by surprise that Lions Club of Seremban Central spontaneously contributed RM 10,000.00 (including RM 5,000.00
from District Chairperson Helen Teo) towards this cause. At the Zone 18 Joint Installation, the
LEF was made richer when YB
Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Gan Ping Sieu pledged RM 10,000.00 through his friends. Zone Chairperson Javern
through an email to me informing that Lions Club of Taman Tun is pledging RM 10,000.00 through Lion President Chu Tham
Sang- RM 7,000.00 and his friend RM 3,000.00. Lion Chu,
"terima kasih banyak-banyak." The evening before, while waiting for
some Lions, I went for a drink with a friend. What a surprise, he (James Yeap) donated RM 10,000.00 without much persuasion.
His cheque is now with me. I believe more Lions will come forward. I believe that the sum of RM 5,000.00 from Lions Club of Gua
Musang is just an initial to their final amount.

My fellow Lions, within such a short period of time since my announcement on the 6th of August,
LEF has achieved RM
120,000.00!. This has only been made possible with your overwhelming support and from friends of Lions and business
associates. The journey towards the realization of our
LEF is a long one. But I am very confident that we can achieve our goal
by 31st January, 2011. All of us, in whatever position held, be it Governor, Cabinet Officers,  clubs Presidents or members of
BODs have only one year to serve ( it is now less than that - 10 months plus), and I believe that you would want to see the
realization of our dream i.e. the formation of
LEF be a reality. I believe you would want to be a part of it, whether as members or
those holding position in our District. As the strongest within the MD 308, it is only fitting that we have our very own
LEF, as
other sub Districts for example, District 308A1 and A2 though is much lesser in membership have already got one! So are we
going to wait or are we going to do something
NOW !!! For sure as "A Beacon of Hope" to the needy poor students who are
looking forward to study Diploma or Degree courses at Universities and Colleges, the Lions of District 308B1 must rise and
stand and be counted. Just think for a moment, if we can help 30 students, their whole generation would benefit from this act of
kindness from us. It is
WORTH IT !

I look forward to club visits and end of this week I will be in Kuantan to attend their joint installation. I trust that Region
Chairperson Karen, Zone Chairperson Hwung and Club Presidents Marene, Susan and Peng Soon will be equally excited and
will mobilise your members and friends to help towards this noble cause which touches our hearts.

"Together, We Serve As One !"
